SCISCO Career Pathways is planning to apply for funding to establish a unique learning environment for young people to experience success and plan for their futures.

Designed specifically for 15-17 year olds who have disengaged from school, The Spence Studio will offer individualised learning programs to participants, which will include industry placements, mentoring sessions, accredited training, life skills, community service and self esteem programs.

Named after SCISCO’s co-founder John Spence, The Spence Studio will follow the key values and foundations that established SCISCO fourteen years ago- integrity and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.

Many young people who have disengaged from school need alternative pathways and a community approach to help them uncover their passions and talents.

SCISCO’s CEO Andrea Lee says, “We have consulted widely and put a lot of thought into this unique concept which we hope will give young people a chance to feel valued and to feel a sense of achievement.”

Class sizes will be limited to 15 and will be segregated by gender, to maximise the learning experience of participants.

John Crozier, who co-founded SCISCO with Mr Spence back in 1996, will manage the studios. Mr. Crozier reports, “We are keen to see two sites established. One in Varsity Lakes or central Gold Coast and one in Palm Beach where there is a current shortage of services for this client group.”

John Crozier has just completed a Masters in Counseling and has more than 25 years experience working with this age group, including teaching in secondary schools.

“I have a strong personal commitment to young people and feel this community approach to re-engage young people will produce outstanding outcomes, not just for the kids but for our community.”

SCISCO Career Pathways is currently seeking Letters of Support for their funding submission. For more information or to share your ideas please contact Andrea or John at SCISCO.
