children creating children

Although the number of teenage births has dropped noticeably over the last few decades, the reason behind this is due to abortion being more easily accessible, rather than the actual sexual activity decreasing. An astonishing 45 percent of high-school girls admitted that they do not use condoms consistently.
‘As adolescents commonly delay seeking prescription contraception [until] after initiating sexual activity, it is perhaps not surprising that half of adolescent pregnancies occur in the first 6 months of sexual activity,’ said Dr Skinner. 'If the teenage girl does go through with the birth, they are not the only ones who suffer. Due to lack of experience and knowledge, their child can become open to neglect and abuse.'
Whether the cause is lack of sexual education in schools or parents not giving sufficient sexual advice, both issues are worth considering taking action on.
