At a time when young women are bombarded with over-sexualised messages, a new magazine launched earlier this year is aiming to restore young women’s perspective of body image to a more realistic outlook.
The Spring edition of Bella Magazine is out now and has the theme ‘Body Image – Don’t Let it Define You’. It addresses issues of self esteem, the pitfalls of eating disorders and over exercising as well as tips on how to be satisfied with your body shape.
“The flawless and flaunting images of airbrushed and digitally manipulated models,” magazine editor Liz Hamilton says, “are creating unhealthy and unrealistic expectations in society.”
Bella – meaning beautiful girl – aims to counter these messages, and is well worth subscribing to if you have a teenage daughter or if indeed you are a teenage girl.
